“Sun was made for coming out, even though the night is long.” Aperture – The Head And The Heart’s sixth album and first since signing to Verve Forecast – is the affirming work of a band finding again its shared footing, reaching unimagined levels of camaraderie and mutual risk as one. With every song fortified by the sense of beginning again, Aperture is The Head And The Heart’s most vital and poignant album. Featuring tracks like the album’s beautifully arcing opener “After the Setting Sun” and the mighty anthem “Arrow,” Aperture is a stunning testament to the collaborative work of a band who decided to let in the light, return to their roots, and forge a new path, together as one.

Multi-faceted artist, KEVIN OLUSOLA, known as one-fifth of multi-platinum a cappella group Pentatonix, releases his debut solo album, DAWN OF A MISFIT via Sony Music Masterworks.

The album serves as a road map of Olusola’s career. When he felt the calling to become a professional musician at age 20, Olusola hadn’t yet discovered his purpose. Through recording this album, it became clear. Olusola’s passion is showcased through an impressive combination of commanding vocals, heartfelt songwriting, beatboxing, cello-playing, and production. He’s struck a perfect balance of classical musicianship with modern melodies, which is partly fueled by his Nigerian and Grenadian heritage.

The album features tracks such as “DARK WINTER” which combines the symphonic strings of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons with powerful beatbox percussion; “HALLELUJAH”, a standout example of Olusola’s ability to blend classical, pop, and hip-hop elements around Handel’s “Messiah”; the uplifting “SMILE” highlighting the purity of Olusola’s vocals and signature beatboxing on Bach’s iconic Cello Suites; “CRAZY”, a reimagining of Gnarls Barkley’s 2006 hit that transforms the songs into a powerful, dark, and cinematic instrumental which unveils Olusola’s feelings of being misunderstood; and concludes with “KEVIN’S FIFTH”, a fan favorite and reimagining of Beethoven’s 5th often performed during Pentatonix shows.

Deluxe 2xLP vinyl edition. Gatefold Sleeve. Casebound Sleeve. 36 Page Suspended Booklet. Debossed Tipped Cover. Mark Pritchard & Thom Yorke are set to release their debut album as a duo via Warp Records. Tall Tales showcases Pritchard's mastery of archaic machines unearthed in synthesizer archives, guiding the music down unexpected and experimental paths. Yorke meanwhile delivers a haunting and expansive vocal performance, evoking Radiohead's OK Computer-era digital FX while delving into dark, introspective storytelling. Visual collaborator Jonathan Zawada's artistry enhances the project with his hyperreal environments that juxtapose uneasy landscapes of natural beauty with the brutal aesthetics of a dystopian world.

After a long absence, Rilo Kiley—Jenny Lewis, Blake Sennett, Jason Boesel, and Pierre “Duke” de Reeder— are back, with arms outstretched. Over the years, a reunion “felt like a possibility, but it was never the right time,” explains Boesel. “Planning this reunion over these past months has been like reconnecting with family. We haven’t missed a beat,” says De Reeder. “The stakes are only to have a good time, to revel in this nostalgia. Getting to revisit and celebrate the music from that special time of our lives while experiencing it alongside a lot of people that lived it with us back when, and new folks alike.” The new Rilo Kiley album, That’s How We Choose to Remember It, is a collection of career-spanning songs that hit its audience with a breath of honest, fresh air. “For some people, Rilo Kiley evokes a formative, emotional time in life, when you were maybe grasping for your place in the universe. We were too,” says Sennett. We’ve all got a memory or two with the songs of Rilo Kiley. Maybe belting “I Never” or requesting “The Frug,” at a show in the early 2000s. This latest collection celebrates the music so deeply held by many of us. Here’s to Rilo Kiley, their reunion, and the next generation of listeners to love this band as much as we do. Long live Rilo Kiley.

Kristina Murray

Little Blue

Vinyl: $31.99 UNAVAILABLE
Little Blue, the latest album from Nashville artist Kristina Murray, was recorded with producers Misa Arriaga and Rachael Moore. The collection grapples with loneliness, desperation, and existential crises through a series of cinematic snapshots of small-town burnouts and last call lovers. Murray is a country artist in the truest sense, a genuine craftswoman with a keen eye and ear for the little details that bring her working-class characters to life, and her delivery is timeless, blurring the lines between the old school honky-tonk, swampy Americana, and R&B-infused southern rock she grew up on in her home state of Georgia. If Murray sounds like a seasoned vet on Little Blue, that’s because she is. While the album marks her Normaltown debut, Murray’s spent the last decade since moving to Nashville paying her dues in an endless series of dive bars and juke joints, and the result is an electrifying introduction to an artist only just beginning to get the kind of wider recognition her talent has long warranted. “I’ve been to some pretty low places these last ten years,” Kristina Murray confesses. “Faced a lot of heartbreak and loss and grief, but you have to learn to live with those things if you’re going to survive. You have to persevere.” That spirit of perseverance forms the bedrock of Little Blue.
