Because of commercials, each episode of 24 is actually only 44 minutes long. It took us around 18 hours to watch the whole set. That means that we aren't seeing a full six hours in Jack Bauer's life. I like to think that he's using that time to eat a sandwich or drop a deuce. At least that's what I would do in between being shot at and tortured.
