Limited picture disc vinyl LP pressing. Capital Punishment is the 1998 debut studio album released by rapper Big Pun, it is the only album of released during his lifetime. The album peaked at #5 on the Billboard 200 charts and #1 on the Top R&B Albums chart for two weeks. It was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 1999 Grammy Awards, but lost to Jay-Z's Vol. 2... Hard Knock Life. It was also the first solo Latin hip hop record to go Platinum. Emerging from the underground hip hop scene in The Bronx borough of New York City in the early 1990s, Big Pun debuted as a guest rapper on Fat Joe's 1995 album Jealous One's Envy, then appeared on Flesh-N-Bone's solo album T.H.U.G.S. in 1996 and The Beatnuts' 1997 album Stone Crazy before signing with Loud Records as a solo artist. Pun's lyrics are notable for technical efficiency, having minimal pauses to take a breath, heavy use of alliteration as well as internal and multi-syllabic rhyming schemes.
