Astrud Gilberto (born March 1940) was probably the first Brazilian artist to gain worldwide fame. As a teenager she met and later married Joao Gilberto, the well-known singer songwriter and then emigrated to the USA. There, in 1963 she sang on the song "The Girl From Ipanema" from the album "Getz/Gilberto". The single version, featuring Astrud Gilberto's English lyrics rather than the original Portuguese lyrics became a million seller, and a worldwide smash hit. The popularity of this single led to a lifelong career, spanning 4 decades and 16 album recordings. These songs were recorded in the late seventies, produced by Hank O'Neal and Astrud Gilbrto, and feature Chet Baker.
