Like many freak-folkers, Banhart is best-known to the mainstream for his beard. Unlike Peter from Family Guy, he doesn't house baby birds within it. We think. His plaintively strummed, vaguely psychedelic passages made Cripple Crow a surprise hit a few years ago, and he's been surprisingly prolific since first appearing in 2002, achieving his highest charting album via 2005's split with hushed Houstonite contemporary Jana Hunter.
