Reviews:
Hayden sounds a little bored and fatigued at this March 2002 performance atthe University of Torontoand his voice cracks audibly every time he triesto hit the high notes. And he peaks pretty early into the concert, spiralinginto sloppiness on the entirety of the second disc and half of the first. Still, the intimacy of the recording is estimable: Hayden performs all but three ofthe songs with a guitar or piano as his only accompaniment. Non-album tracks"Woody" (a freewheeling ode to his pet cat) and the Neil Young cover"Tell Me Why" (with backing vocals by Julie Doiron and Howie Beck)are obvious high points. But the only truly vital songs are renditions of "BassSong" and "Lullaby" (from this year's Skyscraper NationalPark) with full string and horn arrangements; everything else on Live atConvocation Hall falls just short of the original studio versions, and shouldbe considered for completists only.
