Reviews:
Greetings From Wawa, Old Crow’s first full-length album, was recorded over the course of a few weeks in September 1999, in a small farmhouse on Flatsprings Road just outside Elk Park, North Carolina. It captures the primitive sound of a young old-time string band in its brilliant infancy. With nearly 60 minutes of music, Wawa captures rasping fiddle lines, shocks of guitar and banjo, and clear, gripping vocals — in addition to yipping beagles, howling locomotives, and the crack of drill sergeant snares — all encompassed in a collection of traditional rural, American songs — the kind of tunes that blow into town, get drunk and leave in a hurry.
It all started a decade ago with a record called Greetings From Wawa, and a new band in town called Old Crow Medicine Show.
