Reviews:
Detroit's Adult. is that particular sort of group that does one specific thing very, very well. In the case of Adam Lee Miller and Nicola Kuperus' damaged brainchild, it's catatonically reciting examples of modern society's failure over queasy and dystopic electronic accompaniment. Of course, anyone familiar with the early work of Cabaret Voltaire or
Duck Stab-era Residents has been through this drill before, but the world hasn't gotten any better since then. So this EP still makes sense, even if we're all too familiar with its contents.
Not much has changed for Adult. since their last LP, Anxiety Always. Nicola is now attempting to sing a bit more on tracks like "Hold Your Breath" and the title track in a strident Poly Styrene style, but it's all fuzzed out bass riffs and nervous, antsy synth lines that allow for no natural light or fresh air to enter into the production. Indeed, that's the point-but then again, it always has been. It's up to you whether or not you want to hear it made again.
