The Note is brimming with anthemic hardcore songs that keep the faith and, amazingly, don't really suffer at the hands of vocalist Aaron Bedard's limited range. In addition to the tried and true Bane sound, the quintet has added a few touches that expand its sonic breadth. You can hear phased guitars in "Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda," and a piano interlude masquerading as a breakdown in "Pot Committed." Melodic choruses and spacious guitar chords rule "Wasted on the Young," "End With an Ellipsis" has an almost alt-rock feel, and "Swan Song" could be the most mournful-sounding hardcore song ever. And let's not overlook the inclusion of the raging "Hoods Up"-if only to justify the fact that I almost did type "hoodie" 200 times.
