Reviews:
To put it kindly, reviews were mixed when
Reality Bites, etc. star Ethan Hawke unveiled his debut novel in 1996 (interestingly, a star-crossed bummer not unlike his
Before Sunrise/Sunset gabfests with Richard Linklater). Even if the movie sucks too'"although the presence of Laura Linney, Frank Whaley and Michelle Williams makes us think otherwise'"the soundtrack sure won't. Writer/director Hawke went and got all Pitchfork on us, unveiling an all-star lineup of Norah Jones, Willie Nelson, Cat Power, Bright Eyes, Feist, M. Ward, the Black Keys, Emmylou Harris and more. They'll all be lending their talents to original tunes by Jesse Harris, the man behind Norah's "Don't Know Why." So obviously, expect a s*itload of distortion pedals. Should be an intriguing little experiment either way. Man, imagine the indie-rections if Elijah Wood ever adapted his own fiction for the screen'
