''American Doll Posse'' is the ninth studio album (2007) by singer-songwriter Tori Amos. Like her previous albums ''Strange Little Girls'' (2001) and ''Scarlet's Walk'' (2002), ''American Doll Posse'' is a concept album, which entails five female personae Amos developed based on Greek mythology. Musically, the album is a drastic departure for Amos. Having stated that the box set ''A Piano: The Collection'' (2006) was the summation of her previous work and the end of an era, the album elicits a new chapter in her career and is her heaviest, most rock-influenced album to date.

Last month you read all about Trent Reznor's higher-than-high-concept multimedia assault behind Nine Inch Nail's Year Zero. As out of character as that was for Mr. Self Destruct, playing dress-up is part and parcel for his "Past the Mission" collaborator, Tori Amos. The piano-humping powerhouse appears to have created a fictitious eponymous posse of gals' Santa, Clyde, Isabel, Tori and Pip' to give voice to her ninth full-length opus, the fourth being a satirical version of herself, perhaps. She's encouraging fangirls to hunt down their fictional blogs via MySpace (way out-of-context sample: "the only way to achieve beauty is through slime"). As for the album itself, not much is known at press time other than clips of "Bouncing Off Clouds" and "Big Wheel" that have been making the Inter-rounds, and an alleged return of Tori's Wurlitzer. Twenty songs comprise Posse, boasting a couple of fairly killer titles like "Fat Slut" and "Yo George." Hmmm wonder who that last one's about.
